Emergency roof repairs

A new roof, done once and done properly

You will know when it is time. Leaks that keep returning after repairs, tiles slipping all over the roof, a dipping roof line or perished felt in the loft. At that point another patch is money spent twice.

Everything under the tiles is renewed too. The old covering comes off, then new breathable membrane, battens, flashings, ridges and hips go on with the new tiles or slates, so the whole roof starts again from new.

We will tell you if a repair will do. We look at the whole roof first. If it has years left in it with a repair, that is what we recommend.

What a re-roof includes

  • Strip and clear: old tiles or slates, battens and felt removed and taken away.
  • Membrane and battens: new breathable membrane and treated battens across the whole roof.
  • Your choice of covering: concrete or clay tiles, or natural and fibre-cement slate, chosen to suit the house and the street.
  • Ridges, hips and verges: dry-fixed or bedded to suit the roof, so they stay put in high wind.
  • Leadwork and flashings: renewed round chimneys, walls and roof windows at the same time.
  • Guttering and fascias: replaced alongside if they are past their best. See guttering.

New Roofs questions

How long does a new roof take?

Most house re-roofs take a few days to a week once the scaffold is up, depending on the size of the roof and the weather.

What does a new roof cost?

It depends on the size of the roof, access, the covering you choose and what needs renewing underneath. The only reliable figure is a quote for your roof, and our quotes are free.

Do I need planning permission for a new roof?

Re-covering a roof like for like does not normally need planning permission, but listed buildings and conservation areas can be different. Check with the council if either applies to your home.

Can I stay at home while the roof is replaced?

Yes. The work happens outside, and the roof is kept weathertight at the end of each day.
